UnblockMe comes straight to your iPhone and challenges you to a few rounds of head-banging on hard-wood bricks as you try to crack the code and squeeze through a set of blocks that slide dependent on each other’s movements. The app provides you with countless hours of play packed with both enjoyment and frustration at the same time.

Your task is to steer the red block through the maze, by moving and sliding the other blocks on the screen, so as to clear the way towards the exit, on the right-hand side. The movements are simple, just slide the blocks up, down, left or right to free up your way for the red block to go on undisturbed towards the exit. After last weeks night spent teasing our brains with BrainTeaser, we challenged our testers again with another puzzle game, only this time their task seemed somewhat easier for the first ten or so levels. The app features two game apps, Relaxed and Challenge. In Challenge mode, the app keeps track of all your moves, and, of course, the less, the better, the smarter you feel.

Get yourself movin’ with Mover

Mover is an iPhone app that allows the direct sharing of photos and contacts between two iPhones via WiFi, without the hassle of syncing pairing or third-party servers. Exchanging contacts and photos is as easy as flicking the item to the edge of the iPhone screen, making it as fun and as fast as possible.

Mover requires no device pairing of any kind. Just open up the app on both devices and the app does the rest in recognizing them over a shared WiFi network. You can then choose what to transfer, swipe the item in the direction indicated on the screen and the item appears on the other device (with a nice effect too). The receiving device doesn’t need to save anything it receives, as the app does that as well. Be it a photo or a contact, Mover recognizes and saves it to its appropriate location.

Take the BrainTeaser challenge

A regular puzzle mania hit our test team when they downloaded from the Appstore Uwe Meier’s BrainTeaser iPhone app. BrainTeaser definitely challenges you, and if you were looking for a fun and relaxing iPhone game, you can forget it.

The concept behind the game is simple enough for a toddler to understand. Tap one square on the iPhone, and it will flip changing its color and the color for all its neighboring squares. Your goal is to recreate the pattern BrainTeaser shows you in the bottom-left corner of your iPhone before the time expires.

The solutions to the puzzles are not as simple though.Think of it as playing chess, where you would think a couple of moves ahead of your opponent. With BrainTeaser, you are your only opponent, so you have to think ahead of how the pattern will look like 2-3 moves ahead for the harder puzzles on the higher levels and plan your strategy accordingly. The update gives users the option to disable the time-race, but your scores will not be added to the Hall of Fame.

Get out and about with AroundMe

If you’re always on the road, on a business trip or just around the block, then the Around Me iPhone app can help you to find the nearest anything that is around you, from bars and restaurants, hotels, gas stations, entertainment local attractions such as theaters and cinemas, or your nearest local Apple Retailer. The iphone app is free to download from the Appstore.

AroundMe uses the GPS location feature from your iPhone to figure out your current location and then extracts from Google’s business listings those closest to you. The problem, if you can call it that, is that the businesses are self-submitted by their owners, so local listings will depend on whether the local owners around you have submitted their business to Google. The good news is each business comes complete with contact info, so you can schedule ahead of time, make reservations or inquiries.

Truphone challenges Skype for VoIP calls

Skype now has a competitor for the mobile market with Truphone releasing their own iphone app, allowing users to save big on international calls. With its new version hitting the Appstore, it definitely called for a review, especially with its enticing offer for better call quality, a unifying IM and several interface improvements.

Like Skype, it gives you free voice calls worldwide to other Truphone users, instant messaging, and great rates for calls made to landlines and other mobile phones. Like Skype however, calls are only allowed over WiFi, as iphone VoIP apps aren’t allowed to use 3G. So, if you and your partner are both in range of a hotspot, jab all you want, it’s all completely free. Even calls to landlines and other mobile phones come at pretty low rates. Calls to the US come at 51 cents a minute, less if you sign up for one of their monthly plans.

Catch that catchy tune with Midomi

Picture this. You wake up on morning, turn on the radio, and there’s that song again. You know it’s going to haunt you all day now. You get to your car, start tapping the steering wheel along with the tune now stuck in your head for good. You get to the office still humming that chorus. And you still don’t know what song it is, or even who’s singing it, even at least one tiny bit of clue of what you’ve been singing the whole day. Well, look no further, Midomi for iphone has the exact answer for you.

The development team at Melodis created Midomi, a free iphone app that listens to your favorite music and identifies the song and artist, displaying various information about it, such as artist and album information, release year, lyrics, related YouTube videos. With its Sound2Sound Search Engine, the app needs 10 seconds or less to identify a song, and minimizing the background noise (such as humming along or talking over the song) does help Midomi do the job in under 7 seconds, which this music lover found pretty amazing.

pee-monkey-toilet-trainer-app-review

While sounding dangerously close to a “fart” app, Pee Monkey Toilet Trainer proves to be much funnier and exciting to play on your iphone than expected. The plot of this free iphone game is simple. The little monkey can’t stop peeing and it’s up to you to help it aim for the toilet before what spills over reaches the power outlet and kills the light.

The game controls are simple as well. Tilt the iphone to aim the pee at the toilet, fill it up, and the nice little she-monkey will flush it for you and you get some bonus points. Oh yeah, also, try to keep the spill at a minimum, mkay? As your score goes up, the speed at which your monkey slips from one side to the other of the iphone screen will also increase. The game ends with a short-circuit and an oh-so-funny “Oho” from your little peeing friend.
