One month after the release of their newest game Rafter, the guys over at Punflay are happy to announce the launch of a contest for their flagship iPhone game.

Indulge yourself with Rafter’s 31 levels of puzzle and fun and score your way to the top of the leaderboards. Rafter is a problem solving puzzle game (much like Enigmo) where you need to use your skills to draw blocks and launch them at mines. Oceanhouse Media, Inc., launched today three new officially licensed iPhone Apps based on the beloved classic children’s stories by Dr. Seuss. Two of the top selling children’s books of all time, The Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss’s ABC are now available as interactive eBooks in the App Store for $3.99 each. In addition, Oceanhouse Media announces Dr. Seuss Camera – The Cat in the Hat Edition, a unique and whimsical photo card maker, is also now available for $2.99.

In a rather unsurprising but still tyrannic move earlier this week, Apple hinted at removing one app from the AppStore if the developers didn’t remove the Android mention from their app description. They apparently considered it promotional text mentioning Google’s Android platform, and not what the developers named a marketing strategy to increase sales.

The application in question is

Starting today, Apple finally activated the possibility to preview applications from the AppStore right in your browser. Our readers had the pleasure of seeing a preview html page of the actual AppStore page for the app in their own browser, instead of the dialog box prompting you to launch iTunes on your desktop. Note though, the dialog box is not gone. You will still be prompted to launch iTunes, but if you don’t wish to, you can still preview the actual application’s page, as if in iTunes.

The feature is rather limited at the time of this writing. You can’t really browse the AppStore per-se. You can only jump from app to app (via “Customers also bought”), and any link you try to click on will get you to that dialog box. I thought we’d do something a bit different than rant about how the iPad was a disappointment to some, the future for others or plain unimportant for many. This is indeed the technological device that has fed the most “news” and “previews” to the rumor mill for the past months, setting high expectations both from within and from outside Apple. Jobs himself was quoted saying that the new device was going to be his greatest creation yet. I’m sure most of this was a marketing technique to stir up the spirits, but that’s not to say that if they announced it even a day before the event, that hall room wouldn’t be filled up the next day.

The filmmaker Dan Wooley went to Survivor-mode after being trapped under the tons of wreckage in the lobby of his hotel by the January 12 earthquake that hit Haiti.

Wooley used the technology at hand to assess his wounds, treat them as best he could and stay alive until rescue workers dug him out. He first opened his DSLR camera to light the wreckage and his surroundings. After finding a safe spot in an elevator shaft, he turned to his iPhone and one of his apps to treat himself – Pocket First Aid and CPR (iTunes link).

Suffering from a leg and head injury, Wooley used his clothes to make a tourniquet for his leg and stop the bleeding from his head wound. The app also instructed him not to fall asleep, so he set his iPhone’s alarm to go off every 20 minutes.

With the upcoming State Of The Union address next week, the Obama administration figured out that since over 40% of the smartphone users rely on the iPhone and its OS, it wouldn’t be half bad to show a compelling presence on that market. They announced earlier this week on their blog the release of their own iPhone app, intuitively dubbed The White House, which would allow users to view President Obama’s address right from their iPhones.

The app is said to deliver dynamic content from the WhiteHouse website, including live video streaming. It will enable its users to watch speeches, press briefings and web chats in real time. It also provides access to their blog, browsing photos and watching videos.

The iPhone app comes free of charge for users. Careful what you’re downloading, there’s a ton of White House apps there.[...]
