Retrobot - Endeavor Bros Interactive Software

Retrobot iPhone Game Review.

It’s not a classic shooter and it’s not a comic book. It has a little bit of both, but put together in a way that will appeal comic-book fans and gamers alike. Retrobot is at its core a tank shooter game set in an era where robots have taken over the world and humanity is in peril. The theme might sound familiar, but the game itself is sprinkled with comic book scenes and centered around our hero and a pet monkey.

Retrobot’s story mix can only result in pure fun

The gaming itself is not something entirely attractive. All you have to do is control the little Wall-e like robot by going backwards or forward, all the while shooting at targets both above and in front of you. You have two controls basically. A slider for forward/back movement and a directional pad for the shooter, which I suggest you always keep shooting with. You won’t run out of ammo, don’t worry.

But what truly amazes with Retrobot is the animated comic story. I felt like I was reading a comic book where I was the superhero. It was definitely a unique experience and, if not for anything else, you’ll find yourself, like me, playing the game just to finish the level and uncover the next cut-scene and the follow-up to the story.

Throughout the game you’ll see references to popular video games, themes and movies like the Terminator, I, Robot and the like. Even the storyline itself is centered around a robot takeover of the world. You see, around 2025, humanity has delegated a lot of the day-to-day tasks to robots. These machines have gotten better and better over time and due to a server crash, they have now taken over the world, and humanity with it. Retrobot is an older version of these robots, hand-built, and is kept around for playing online video games with his owner. When the robots took over, they also captured his master, and it’s up to Retrobot to defeat them and bring him back.

You’ll have both weapons and power ups at your disposal, but also involves a bit of strategy like firing an EMP at just the right time or using your health-recharging shield to regenerate health.

The graphics are delightful and the goofy characters complete a truly unique gaming experience on the iPhone. You only have to look at this video to see what I'm talking about:

Retrobot is currently selling at $0.99, but that’s about to end. I suggest you get it now, while the offer stands. The standard price will be $2.99, but even so, easily worth it.
