Cookie Policy
Version 1.0 · Last Updated: October 26th, 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Golby Systems LLC, dba Appbite ("Company," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar browser storage on the Appbite website at appbite.com, including its articles, apps, and the Appbite Search topic-based search engine and website directory at appbite.com/search and travel8.com (the "Service").
This policy should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
1. What Are Cookies and Browser Storage?
Cookies are small text files a website places in your browser. They are sent back to the website with each request, which lets the site recognise your browser between pages and visits.
Local storage is a similar browser feature. It holds data on your device, but unlike a cookie it is not sent to our servers with your requests. We use local storage to remember your settings and your recent searches on your own device.
You can see everything the Service has stored in your browser, and delete it, using our Cookie & Storage Checker.
2. Our Approach
- All cookies we set are first-party cookies, set by travel8.com or appbite.com only.
- We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking cookies, tracking pixels or social media widgets.
- We do not sell or share cookie data with advertisers.
- Optional cookies and storage are only used after you have made a choice in our cookie banner.
- If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a refusal of all optional categories and do not show the banner.
3. Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are required for the Service to work and to keep it secure. They do not require consent and cannot be switched off.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
stid |
A random identifier set by our web server. It lets us link requests from the same browser in our security logs so we can detect and block abuse, automated attacks and excessive traffic. It does not contain any personal information. | 30 days |
_csrf |
Security token that protects forms (such as the feedback form) against cross-site request forgery. | 1 hour |
gs_consent |
Remembers the cookie choices you made in our cookie banner, so we do not ask you again on every page. | 180 days |
auth |
Grants access to password-protected areas of the Service after you enter the access password. | 30 days |
gs_user |
Keeps you signed in to your account, where sign-in is available. Set only when you sign in. | 30 days |
gs_user_state |
Temporary security value used only during the sign-in process. | 10 minutes |
admin_auth |
Keeps our own staff signed in to the administration area. Not set for public visitors. | 30 days |
3.2 Analytics Cookies (Optional)
This cookie is only set if you allow the Analytics category in our cookie banner.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
uid |
A random, signed visitor identifier. It lets us count returning visitors and understand which searches, topics, results and pages are used, so we can improve the Service. It is never used for advertising. If you refuse or later withdraw Analytics consent, this cookie is deleted. | 1 year |
We do not use any third-party analytics service. Analytics data is collected and kept on our own servers.
4. Browser Storage We Use (Local Storage)
Local storage stays on your device and is not sent to our servers with your requests.
4.1 Strictly Necessary
| Name | Purpose |
|---|---|
gs_cookie_consent |
A copy of your cookie choices and the date you made them. We ask again after 180 days. |
4.2 Preferences (Optional)
These items remember choices you make on the Service. Your recent searches list (searchHistory) is only kept if you allow the Preferences category, and it is removed if you refuse or withdraw that consent.
| Name | Purpose |
|---|---|
searchHistory |
Your list of recent searches, shown under the search box. Kept on your device only. |
langPref, browserLang |
Your chosen language and the language your browser reports. |
searchAlgo, useLocalResults, useSampleResults and related use...Results items |
Which search method and result sources you have selected in Settings. |
openNewTab, disableThumbnails, fullTopicNames |
Page layout and result display options from Settings. |
disableHistory, hideRecentSearches, hideRecentSearchesFromSearchBar, disableHistoryDropdown, disableRecentSearchesHeading, showSiteInHistory |
Your Privacy and recent-search display options from Settings. |
doNotTrackClicks |
Records that you have asked us not to log which results you click. This setting is kept even if Preferences are refused, so that your opt-out keeps working. |
tourState, tourDone |
Remembers whether you have seen or dismissed the guided tour. |
dirFont, dirPromo, dirModernCounts |
Directory page display options. |
subcat_add_hide_until, catfb_hide_until |
Remembers that you closed a Directory prompt, so it is not shown again for a while. |
5. Third-Party Services
No third party sets cookies through the Service.
Some pages load web fonts from Google Fonts. Google Fonts does not set cookies, but when your browser requests a font file, Google receives your IP address and browser details as part of that request, under Google's own privacy policy.
5.1 Content Delivery & Font Services We May Use in the Future
We may load assets such as fonts, icons or scripts from third-party content delivery networks (CDNs), for example Google Fonts or Cloudflare. Some of these services may set cookies or log your IP address when serving files. Where possible we will self-host these assets to avoid third-party cookies entirely. Where a CDN is used we will disclose it here, and if it sets a non-essential cookie we will ask for your consent first.
| Example service | Purpose | Typical duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Fonts | Serving web fonts. Google may log the request including your IP address per their own privacy policy. | Session or none | google.com |
| Cloudflare CDN | Caching and delivery of static assets. May set a security cookie to distinguish humans from bots. | Session or up to 1 year | cloudflare.com |
When you click a search result or directory listing you leave the Service. The website you visit may set its own cookies under its own policies.
6. How to Manage Your Choices
- Cookie banner: on your first visit you can choose Accept All, Reject All, or Customize to choose each category. Rejecting optional cookies does not limit your access to the Service.
- Change your mind: use the Cookie Settings link in the page footer at any time to change or withdraw your consent.
- Settings panel: the Privacy section lets you turn off saved search history, delete your recent searches, and stop click logging.
- Checker: our Cookie & Storage Checker lists and deletes what is stored in your browser.
- Global Privacy Control: if your browser sends this signal we refuse all optional categories for you automatically.
You can also manage cookies through your browser settings:
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / See all site data and permissions
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data
Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the Service, such as forms and sign-in, from working.
7. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We will update this policy when our use of cookies or browser storage changes. The "Last Updated" date at the top shows the most recent revision. If we add a new optional cookie we will ask for your consent before setting it.
