iDig It - InMotion Software

iDig It iPhone App Review.

In this simple yet challenging iPhone game from InMotion Software, you're in charge of getting farmer Lewis out of a monetary jam by digging with your state-of-the-art bulldozer for subterranean treasures hidden beneath your farm.

As Farmer Lewis, you do what any other farmer would do whenever in a monetary pickle and need to pay mortgage in his farm. You turn your old, outdated bulldozer into a high-tech, mineral-digging, mean machine to explore the undergrounds beneath your farm. What do you know, the terrain is filled with minerals, so away you go and hurry up to gather $100,000 as the bank comes in less than 4 hours to collect.

Game controls are simple and effective. You dig downwards, picking up along the way the various types of valuable minerals you can then sell to purchase different upgrades for your bulldozer. When you've filled up on minerals, use your rocket boosters from your bulldozer to go back to surface. be careful however not to run empty on fuel or you'll be stuck underground. Game over.

Once back in the shed, you can refuel, repair your bulldozer, buy upgrades or pay off your mortgage. The shed offers you six types of upgrades covering all the areas of your bulldozer, from hull resistance to a more powerful drill bit, allowing you to drill faster.

So far so good, the first couple of trips up and down may make you believe you're dealing with a simple boring game. Wrong! Only after can you start to appreciate the strategy involved in upgrading wisely, planning digging routes and calculating remaining fuel to make it back top-side. Digging deeper is key to maximizing profits, but with that comes the added risk of the threat of overheating, hull integrity and, more importantly, always maintaining enough fuel in your tank. If you run out, you'll have to start all over again, which is not quite fair, especially if this happens after quite a lot of game play. So perhaps some kind of checkpoints would come in handy.

The game is worth much more than the $0.99 you're paying for it in the App Store. To be sure you'll be into it, the developers also released a lite version to the game, with some limitations, but with enough game time to really get into it and start digging it.

This is one of my favorite games- especially for 99 cents! I play this, Toobz, and Bookworm more than anything else, and I tend to get a ton of apps.
