Genie, Dapper and Rex form a unique group of pranksters. They’re fun, loving animals, who prove that there's no reason why cats and dogs shouldn’t get along. And even if Genie and Dapper, the two spirited cats, are always up to something, Rex the dog is always there to look after them, and sometimes get carried away in their pranks. Now they are all on their way to the country, and, knowing them, there's no doubt that they'll come back with a lot of stories to tell. So, if you want to find out all the pranks that these funny characters pulled off on their trip, download Perky Pranksters: Have Fun in the Country, and enjoy their great stories together with your child.

What's the book all about

Perky Pranksters is a both fun, and educational e-book for children. It's all about these three spirited characters and the crazy things they do. I don't want to spoil any surprises, so all I'm saying is that in this edition, Genie, Dapper and Rex will find out that life in the country is not exactly what they imagined it to be. From bulls and horses, to lambs and hens, our three characters find out what life at the country is all about, and make new friends. But, of course, not without getting into some trouble first. Every experience they have is a fun story, and every story is worth reading, as Genie, Dapper and Rex explore the countryside.

Like most e-books for children, your child can read the stories himself, or have them read by a professional speaker. As the speaker reads to him, sentences are highlighted, so that he can also pay attention to how the words are written, not only how they are spelled. Each page is made up of two parts: one written in verse, and the other one in prose. This helps your child get familiarized with different types of texts and appreciate different styles of writing. Also, for a better understanding of the text, he can tap on the images in the book and find out what they are. These are defined by words and sounds, making it easier for your child to remember.

Not just a book, but also an interactive app

And, like most e-books for children, Perky Pranksters is not just a collection of stories, but also an interactive app. Besides reading about Genie, Dapper and Rex's adventures at the countryside, your child can enjoy coloring images, dressing up the characters, hear funny noises played from a tuba, solve rhyming quizzes and record himself. All these things develop your child's imagination, creativity and logic, while getting familiarized with these three adorable characters. And since Perky Pranksters has so much to offer, there's a good chance your child will get lost in these stories for more than just a couple of hours.

Truth be told, I must admit that I have a soft spot for this kind of apps. But that's not the only reason why I enjoyed Perky Pranksters: Have Fun in the Country. What I particularly liked about it was that it brings up new games and fun ways to keep children focused on the story. Like these dressing games that children nowadays like so much. This comes to prove that the developers know their audience and what to do to keep them involved.

However, I must also admit that I sometimes found the stories hard to read for a preschooler. Unlike other similar books, these stories are a little more complex, thus better suited for older children. Plus, since instead of words, sentences are being highlighted as they are being read to him, this makes it harder for a younger child to follow.

All in all, Perky Pranksters: Have Fun in the Country is an extremely educational and fun e-book for children. One suggestion, though: I would recommend it for children over the age of 8, rather than 4.
