It’s Whack-a-Mole With A Twist

Touch Attack iPhone App Review.

Touch Attack features three different little bites of entertainment packaged into one nice suite for everyone to enjoy, with a nice twist to the classic Whack-A-Mole gameplay. With funny sound effects, stylishly cartoonish themes and entertaining animation sprites for the in-game characters, Touch Attack is a solid release for time-wasters like myself who enjoy a fast paced game with some touches of creativity.

Three Games In One

The first game you can play is Touch Attack where you have to use your quick reflexes in a classic game of Whack-A-Mole with a twist. Not all of the criters that pop out are valid targets. You only have to hit the ones with the red bullseye on their chest. Shooting an "innocent" mole will lose you a life (out of three), and you'll be that much closer to end-game. The first round is pretty easy, all you need is some basic eye-to-hand coordination, as there are only three holes to start with. More holes are added along the next rounds to make the game more interesting.

The second game you can choose is Memory Attack, a classic Simon Sez memorization game, that uses both visual and audio to test your memory. As with Touch Attack, the first few levels are easy as pie, once you get past level 5, then there's real challenge.

The Ticketing System Provides A Nice Twist

While the games won't have you rolling on the floor laughing, the moles are pretty funny in the way they're dancing around and poping out of their holes. There's also quite a variety of animation sprites for the moles themselves. The ticketing system behind it is however what most attracted me to this one. At first you're only able to play the first two games, and depending on your performance in each of the rounds, you're awarded tickets that you can trade to unlock additional themes, cool sound effects and music tracks. Each of the game comes with its set of themes and sounds, so there's quite a variety to it. Last but not least, win enough tickets (you need at least 5,000) and you'll be able to unlock the third game in the Touch Attack suite.

Match-Attack is the third (unlockable) game in the suite. It's similar to Touch Attack, except you have to match the moles that pop out of the hole. This will tend to become increasingly harder a lot faster than the previous two games. But, the game ranks higher than the other two as my personal favorite of the suite.

Did I mention the in-game shop? I know I did, but that's still one of the best features of the game and the main feature to give it a high replay value. If you're tired of blasting moles on the ground, why not take the action in outer space? Simply purchase the Celestial theme, and away you go. Earning tickets is not that hard. On the first go, I remember I won 525 tickets from playing the first round in both the two games available.

The game is free to download from the AppStore and I recommend it to anyone, be it a fan of Whack-A-Mole, or simply willing to try a great game (well, three in one, actually).
