Bump makes shaking hands outdated

Bump iPhone App Review.

When the Appstore hit the 1 billionth milestone, one of the big winners was the three-man-development shop behind Bump Technologies with their easy contact inter-exachanger Bump. The free app makes it easy for iPhone and iPod Touch users running it on their device to exchange contact information by bumping the devices between them.

The idea behind the application is simple enough. Two users run Bump at the same time, "bump" their device to one another and the application offers the possibility to exchange contact information. That's it. No typing, no writing, no exchanging of business cards or little paper napkins.

The app needs a stable internet connection, be it WIFI or 3G for the iphone to connect and upload and download contact information. When we started the application, it connected to the server and asked us to select the contact information to be available for exchange. After connecting two iPhones to the Bump server, a mere waving of the two devices did the trick. The sharing screen pops up and the exchange is made with a flick of the finger, the whole process taking no longer than a couple of seconds.

The small company says that the privacy of your data and contact information is totally secured, no one can see it, accept after you approve the transfer to the other Bump device. The application sends an encrypted connection to the server and then uses location data to determine whether there is another device running the same app attempting to share information. If so, the pairing is made and the data transferred.

We are looking forward to an upgrade of this cool iphone app, when more than contact information can be shared, like photos, Internet links and bookmarks or multiple contacts. Until then, enjoy bumping into one another! We are!

  6. Bashthejugs says:

Ever since the recent update the app sucks. You can no longer see the screen shot above. When you choose a contact you can never cancel them. You can only bump photos now. There is no option to bump paypal, videos, contact info, or anything else. What the heck happened?
The app icon is now a blue background and a small white b.

Bump is a excellent way to switch, get in touch with details and images from iPhone to iPhone via the web. It's a lovely way to share information and facts but still it is restricted to some extent to what you do.

I can’t get this app fo work between my iphone and me wifes iphone. Keeps giving me the error “your the only one to bump’ try again” though i bump both phones. What is going on?

    • appbiter says:

Both iPhones need to be using the same version of Bump, with the app started and a stable Internet connection. If 3G doesn’t do it for you, try connecting via WiFi, but be sure you’re both using the same.

If all else fails, do submit a ticket with their support. They’ve been helpful to us in the past.

      Good luck!

Nice looking app I must say. I don’t know if it was so used before it became the 1 billionth app to be downloaded from the Appstore. Congrats to the team though and I’ll be looking for that update, soon I hope.
