Wannabat Season Plus - vitusoft

Wannabat Season Plus iPhone Game Review.

Just how good a baseball player do you think you are? Now, there's an easy way to find out. And you don't have to pay a dime for it. Just download Wannabat from the AppStore and put your baseball skills to the test. Whether you feel like a rookie or a pro, Wannabat will definitely get you in a baseball playing mood.

The Game

Wannabat is a fun, simple game, where you take turns pitching and batting. Now, you don’t have the whole team behind you, but you do get three strikes and you’re out. There’s also three chances (each with three strikes) to score a point. And if you don’t know how to score a point in baseball, no worries, I had no idea before playing this game either. With every successful swing at the incoming ball, you get a certain distance, depending on how accurate and timely you hit it. That distance is converted into how many bases you’ve covered. You need to cover all four, not necessarily in one hit - which is called a home run, to score a point.

Score more points at batting than your opponent does and you win the game. There are skills to be learned, different gear waiting for you to try them on, and all sorts of bats that improve your game. Just keep your eyes on the ball at all time, and do your best to score as many points as you can.

With each game won, you score some overall points, and these points get converted into some sort of cash that you can spend in the store to upgrade your gear. Get a better bat - that’s your first thing on the list. You’ll swing harder and hit farther. Of course, a better bat won’t improve the timing on your swing, but with practice you’ll get that nailed down.

Getting started

After creating a player and going through a pretty complex tutorial that gets you all set up for the game, it's time to face your first challenge. Now, you can either play the game in Single Mode, or try the Multiplayer Option. In Single Mode, you can only compete against NPCs, but you gain skill points, advance levels and unlock items. Plus, with every NPC you defeat, you unlock their character in the custom game mode. The Multiplayer Mode isn't quite that rewarding, but what can be more challenging than actually playing against another real gamer?

Use coins and SP to improve your game

The better you get at playing Wannabat, the more your SP increases, and the more coins you collect. And they don't just go to waste. You can use your SP to get all sorts of skills, and your coins to get really special skills that you can activate during the game to have an even better shoot at defeating your adversary. Also, you can use coins to buy better gear, and even change your look. Once you feel you're up for something new, try the Custom Mode or the most challenging Hit Derby Mode.

How much do you know about baseball?

Wannabat also has pretty cool graphics, but not such an intuitive gameplay. The thing is that, if you don't know a thing about baseball, you might feel like you're in the dark at first. You feel like you've set your bat in the right position, but you still miss. When you throw the ball, you set its trajectory and although, you get a "bad" or "miss" popping on the screen, your adversary doesn't manage to hit the ball, so, in the end, your trajectory seems to be good.

Here’s the thing though. When pitching, at least for the first three levels, it won’t really matter where you want the ball to go. It will still go straight to the middle. So it’s all a matter of your opponent missing his shot. And for the first two levels, they actually do miss quite a lot.

When batting, you have better control of your bat: where to swing and when.

These are actually two things that should definitely be improved. When pitching in the beginning, when you don’t have a whole lot of experience, the game should give you a fighting chance. At least some of the balls should try to hit their target so that you don’t have to rely on your opponent screwing up. Right now, since you’ll be the first one batting, it’s all a matter of scoring as much as you can when you’re there. If you didn’t score and you’re up to pitch, you might as well restart the game, because you can’t win it. A draw is the best you can hope for.

The graphics and sound are brilliant though and the game mechanics work. I’m definitely keeping this game around. Who knows, maybe with some luck I can even upgrade my pitching and advance a few levels, no?

The game looks amazing on both the iPhone and the iPad. The free version of the game has all the features of the full game, but you start off with less cash to spend in the store. And here's a demo video to show it off:
