Knowledge is power, a wise man said. And what better way to gain more knowledge than to learn about your surroundings and your interests? Of course, there are various ways you can do this, but if you want to start locally and go global, then Hyper Facts can get you started.

Hyper Facts is a convenient and useful way to search for facts about famous people, works, topics, events or places right from your iPhone. In my opinion, the most useful feature was the interactive map that showed hyper facts around your location.

Once you start the app, go to the Nearby tab and allow the app to use your current location. It will then display a Google Map and plot pins around your current location. The pins represent either a location, an event that took place at that location, a famous person that was born there, among some other bits and pieces of [...]

ap-economics-iphone-app-review

Ap Economics is targeted specifically at students prepping for their Economics exam. It features sections on both Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, trying to capture all the relevant information these two classes have covered.

AP Economics features a very organized process of learning. Upon first starting the app, you can select the Microeconomics or the Macroeconomics section. From then on, everything is organized in units with each unit having one or more concepts in it. These concepts are each incorporated on a flashcard, containing a graph and a short explanation of the concept.

Adding all these concepts together you presumably get the overall depth of knowledge that you have already studied in class. Most of the concepts should already be familiar to you when you see the flashcards, that’s why most of the abbreviations won’t even be explained [...]

Oz Wizard on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad is the interactive storybook that tells the famous story of Dorothy, Toto and their three friends, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, as they travel to the Wizard of Oz to make their wishes come true. There’s no doubt that the story of “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” has traveled across the world both in book and movie form, and that children all over know of Dorothy and Toto’s adventures. The development team from Blue Finger have their own version of this true classic and they’re bringing it to your mobile device of choice.

One thing to note is that Oz Wizard tells a shorter story than Baum’s original version. The original book has a lot more adventure in it and does provide more insights into the whole story, not to mention the characters themselves as [...]

Math Whizzes Unite

I remember when I was in high school, our Math teacher had us keep a list of the most commonly used geometry formulas and theorems in order to solve problems in the classroom. He actually took it to a point where he would deduct points if we didn’t have that stupid piece of paper with us. Idiotic, I know, but back then the iPhone wasn’t around and neither was Geometry Stash from Apparent Etch.

Geometry Stash is just what it says it is: a ready-to-use stash of the most commonly used theorems, postulates and corollaries you’d ever need in your Geometry class. If these words have already put you in the dark, then Geometry Stash may be for you. Consider this! Are you in highschool, either studying or teaching? Do you often find yourself looking for the formula you need to solve that geometry problem? Are you studying for GMAT or other similar [...]

Avid crossword puzzle addicts ahoy! Dictionary.com launched a new iPhone app that’s meant to give you a helping hand in solving those crosswords that have your head spinning. Crossword Solver Agent X Word uses Dictionary.com’s proprietary technology and semantic search to give you real-time answers and hits to your crossword. They claim to have reach over two million crossword hints and puzzles that are updated daily, but what’s really catchy about it is that the iPhone app will collect clues that people are searching for everyday, therefore understanding trends and recognizing current events.

I’m not sure exactly how it works, or rather why it works as it does. When you launch the app, you’re greeted by Agent X Word, and you have to feed him clues and he’ll give you answers. A clue is defined as the [...]
