Ready To Say GoodBye To Cloud Syncing?

I’ve always loved Dropbox and cloud syncing. I think it’s dead easy to use, extremely fast and just about 100% reliable. So when I heard of BDrive and its proposition, I had to give it a try.

BDrive wants to cure our dependency on cloud services when it comes to important data. They propose an alternative route. Instead of syncing anything, or everything, to the cloud, why not have it readily accessible directly from our own computers?

The basic idea is that any file that’s stored locally on my computer, I can easily access from my iPhone, without having to sync anything either directly or through a third party app.

So I’m like great. I’ll give it a shot. How does it work?

You’ll need two things. The BDrive client app, which is this iPhone app. And the BDrive Server app, which gets installed on your own [...]

book-of-magic-iphone-app-review

Throughout childhood, I think what amazed me most were circus animals and magic. I was too small to handle lions with a whip, but I could never be too young or too old to perform magic tricks. When I was young, we didn’t have YouTube, so the only place I could learn any magic tricks from TV shows.

Right now things have changed, and you can learn magic tricks from a bunch of places online. Since we’re always mobile, what could be more exciting than whipping out your iPhone and learning a new trick in mere minutes.

This is where Book Of Magic comes in. This handy iPhone app contains over 60 unique magic tricks, complete with demo videos and learning instructions, also in easy-to-follow video format.

The tricks are categorized according to complexity levels, showiness or categories such as Card tricks, Romantic tricks, Money tricks [...]

A Touch Puzzle – Great Graphics, Same Old Game Play

I’ve always said puzzle games are a big genre on the App Store. But the issue is that with a growing number of such games, there’s little to no innovation. A lot of the puzzle games seem to follow a precedent and aim to further develop a puzzle concept through spicier graphics, perhaps an extra layer of difficulty. It’s been a while since I’ve played a puzzle game that redefined puzzle games or introduced a new and exciting concept for the genre in the App Store.

Unfortunately, Touch Puzzle is not that game either. The concept of the game is similar to other games. You’re presented with a board filled with different icons and you need to connect three or more identical icons to remove them from the board. When you do, more icons appear from the top.

The way you connect three icons is by drawing lines with your finger on the screen. Each line needs to [...]

It’s now time for you singers out there to feast your eyes on another attempt to create the ultimate Karaoke app. After last week’s Karaoke Now, it’s time for SingIt to have a shot at the big title.

SingIt is relatively different from Karaoke Now, because it doesn’t require you to have or buy any special karaoke music. The app works great with any song from your entire iPod music library. With that, however, comes a price. Your own voice is recorded on top of the original song, so you’re basically doing a classic sing-along.

To make it work, simply start up the app, but make sure there are songs in your music library on your device. Choose a song to sing along to, then press record. You’ll get a classic countdown from 3, and then the red “On Air” button lights up. The music starts and you have to know the lyrics and when to start singing.

With these things in mind, SingIt is not really a karaoke app. You can choose any song on your iPhone, as long as you know the lyrics, and sing [...]

While I personally don’t care much for books, pamphlets or any digital publication that prides itself on knowing my own life better than me, it does make me wonder how is it that I always seem to find myself within those pages that deep down I know are not written about me or my life.

I guess it’s one of those metaphysical questions that I won’t dare to venture to answer, for the sole reason that I truly believe that I am the only one who can change for the better or for the worse, and that outside factors are as important as I want them to be.

That is not to say that I’m completely disregarding everything that says otherwise, and today I decided to give one such app a try and perhaps share some thoughts on it. Dan Millman’s best-selling book – “The Life You Were Born To Live” – comes accompanied by an iPhone app [...]
