1-to-25-iphone-game-review

Just when you thought the greatest puzzle games for the iPhone and iPod Touch have already been coded, Syndicated Puzzles comes out with an interesting approach to a new puzzle game using the numbers 1 to 25.

With 1 to 25, your task is to carefully arrange all the numbers on a 5×5 grid, according to two simple rules. The “next to” rule states that every number placed on the board needs to have neighbors in a consecutive sequence. The goal is to form a snake like row of numbers, starting at 1 and ending with 25. The snake won’t bite it’s own tail, but will curl around their bodies.

The “edge” rule relates to the placement horizontally and vertically of any give number. Around the 5×5 grid, you will see all the 25 numbers laid out in a random order, with big arrows pointing towards the board. [...]

cops-robbers-iphone-game-review

We’ve heard a lot of Glu but never had the chance to get our hands on one of their games for the iPhone so far. But we couldn’t have picked a better time, and game, to do it. Cops & Robbers, released just this month, is one amazing action-arcade game that will provide you with a few-hours straight of fun and excitement.

With Cops & Robbers, you’re dealing with a cartoon-style Parkour game where your goal is to basically run away from the cops. Each of the levels is a race against the clock between you (the robber) and the cops that are right on your tail. Your character is in constant motion and runs automatically and you’re left with just stirring him right, left avoiding obstacles, jumping over them and on and to roof tops. If the cops catch up with you because you’ve gotten blogged down [...]

Giving off the impression of just another match-3 game type, just a copycat, Stoneloops of Jurassica from PlayCreek exceeded our expectations and came out as a smashing piece of art to stand at the fore-front of future such arcade games.

The game play is simple providing you with a really low learning curve. Differently colored stones will slide in from the top of the puzzle screen, going through a looping path, heading towards the end of the path where a dragon head is waiting to devour your stones. If you fail to prevent the stones from reaching, it’s game over. Doing this is simple enough in theory. Fire stones from the launcher at the bottom of the screen, aiming to complete a three or more lineup of same colored stones in the path. The more such stones are in the path, the higher you’ll score. The makers of Crazy Penguin Catapult and Rollercoaster Rush, the team from Digital Chocolate has hit the jackpot with its newest golden release – California Gold Rush. The game is similar to the iDig It release from InMotion Software, but it will take you back in time, when the gold rush was on. The game had me hooked the very first run, and I’ve been pushing towards the final levels since. It’s freshly addictive and extremely pleasant and entertaining.

You’ll be playing the sweet Mandy as you rush to gather as much gold as possible from the depths beneath. Your task is to explore over 30 mines throughout the game, filled with golden surprises, but spiced up with sudden dangers as well. The controls are really simple. A simple tap on a square of dirt and Mandy will dig right through it [...]

iq-test-iphone-app-review

Amidst a whole bunch of similar apps that claim to test your intelligence and reveal your IQ, we ran across a more compelling application in the App Store that has really put our skills to the test. IQ-Test from MacPhun is currently on sale – 80% off, and has been so for the past couple of weeks.

Whether the test is fully consistent with the standards of IQ testing, whatever these may be, we can’t know for sure, but what I can guarantee is that you’ll get a real kick out of this one. Besides being easy to use, questions coming at you automatically, there are other options that tend to give you a helping hand in getting a higher IQ. You can pause the test whenever and come back to it later, right where you left off, pass off questions and solve them at a later stage, all of which [...]

Once best game, always best game

By AppBite Team   July - 26 - 2009    See more Apps inApp Reviews, Games & Entertainment   2 Comments

With the App Store turning 1 this week, we wanted to remember some of the original games that came out with its launch one year ago. Since we’re really into puzzle games, we wanted to review such a game that, even though 1 year old, still plays out real nice on our devices. So we remembered a little game called Enigmo, that really stirred up spirits at the WWDC ‘08 and easily captured developers, reviewers, and users’ attention. At that conference it was voted as “best iPhone game,” a rank that Enigmo can easily compete for with similar puzzle games within its range even today.

You start out the new game with Level 1, and two buckets of water on the screen – one is hanging upside down pouring water drops, and one is sitting on a platform. The two buckets are not aligned so the water spills onto the floor, so the object of the game is to get the drops of water from one bucket to pour to the other. You’re given several tools at your disposal, depending on the level you’re at and what you need to build a complex platform system that will successfully direct the water to the target bucket. You are however limited on supplys, so you must plan where exactly each tool will go to play as an integral part of your system.

We dug it! Did you?
