Not Even GhostsBusters Can Save You From The (z)Ghosts in Your iPhone

With zGhost, you can instantly turn your iPhone’s camera into a ghost camera. The app uses augmented reality technology to overlay the camera view over 16 ghosts. Softeq, the developers behind it, say that the iPhone’s camera is actually, and I quote, sensitive enough to pick up the low-glow of ectoplasm radiated by ghosts, end quote. After first reading this description in the AppStore, you might be fooled into thinking it’s just another dumb app that tries to sweet talk its way onto your iPhone. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

While we’ve seen other neat uses of augmented reality, what better way to augment reality (thus turning it into fantasy) than with something that doesn’t exist (or does it?). Seeing a ghost in your bedroom or basement is a bit scary, but as long as you acknowledge that it’s…

Spread Betting, Risky Business and CMC Market’s New iPhone App

If you’re like me (ie. a tech-savvy guy with no knowledge of the stock market), then you’d probably disregard CMC Market’s newly launched spread betting app (link) bearing the same name as the company itself. But that would be to your loss, because spread betting is not the same as stock exchange. Spread betting is a simple and cheap way to make tax-free profits quickly, but at a high risk.

Spread betting simply allows you to speculate on whether the price of something will rise or fall by the end of the day. It’s a risky gamble to bet on whether the euro will rise or if Google’s share prices will fall. Take the risk and you stand to make a profit. You don’t need to buy the actual asset you want to trade, but rather bet on the prices offered by the spread betting provider. CMC Markets is one such provider.

My Virtual Girlfriend Is One Sizzling-Hot iPhone Game

Fair warning is due. If you’re not into this type of simulation games, you’ll be a bit disappointed by what you can actually do in it. There’s no adventure, there’s no fantasy and (despite what you might have wondered after seeing the title), there’s no sex involved in My Virtual Girlfriend. All this is not to say that some gaming enthusiasts amongst you will not definitely enjoy this release.

I’ve reviewed similar games in the past (see MyGirl), but they lacked the depth that My Virtual Girlfriend provides. There’s a big variety of interactions you have at your disposal. It’s not really a full-fledged Role Playing Game, but it does follow along these lines.

The first step you have to do in My Virtual Girlfriend is tell the app a little something about you. Pick your name there Don Juan and rate yourself when it comes to [...]

Caveman Test iPhone Review + Promo Code Contest: 20 Codes Available

By AppBite Team   February - 22 - 2010    See more Apps inApp Reviews, Games & Entertainment   1 Comment

The two geniuses behind Str8ts and 1 to 25 have already set the bar very high for the iPhone puzzle game industry. It was kind of unexpected to see that they would be the ones to raise it even higher with another neat puzzle for your mobile delight. The game is called Caveman Test and I would dare say it raises new expectations from future puzzles that would be published in the AppStore in the year to come.

Caveman Test, while not an original concept, stands as the innovative brother of “Sticks and Stones.” This age-old game, prehistoric one might say, appears to be what cavemen where playing after a long day hunting. All they needed was sticks and stones, and of course a clever mind. Cave paintings and wear marks tend to confirm that theory that these homo sapiens were the first puzzle inventors, while the rest is [...]

My6sense Tries To Make Sense Of Your Media Stream

By AppBite Team   February - 3 - 2010    See more Apps inApp Reviews, News & Lifestyle   4 Comments

My6sense is not your usual RSS reader though. While it doesn’t aim to compete with the already established Byline or NetNewsWire, my6sense actually does a pretty good job at replacing them altogether. The difficulty with any RSS reader is that it pulls information from all your subscriptions and gives them to you chronologically. And that’s fine if you only need to manage a few subscriptions, but add up to a few dozen of them, and you’re so buried by the information and you can’t make any sense of it anyway. And this is where my6sense comes in, and sorts through your feeds pulling out content that aligns best with your interests. Digital intuition at its best.

No, my6sense is not a mind reader, nor are you actually downloading a crystal ball. The way it works is by making use of what you are reading on a [...]

Alice Makes Sure You Never Run Out Of Toilet Paper Again

I was a bit in the dark about Alice.com and since I don’t live in the US, I didn’t have much of a chance to try this service out. So as a disclaimer to this review, I don’t live in the US and I don’t use the services provided by Alice.com. I did however try out their new iPhone app, and will recommend it wholeheartedly.

Just to recap a bit, Alice.com is an online retail platform that’s aimed at linking manufacturers of household items like tooth brushes, toilet paper or trash bags to consumers directly. You can set up an account (free of charge) on Alice.com, and you can select the products you use the most. Alice will keep you organized and present you with discount coupons whenever they will come up for your products. The service offers free shipping on top of prices that are 20 to 30% lower than what you’d be [...]

iBomber – One Of The Best Arcade Action Games For The iPhone

By AppBite Team   February - 1 - 2010    See more Apps inApp Reviews, Games & Entertainment   4 Comments

I personally like World War II depictions in cinema and literature, and it came as no surprise why I enjoyed the iBomber experience on my iPhone. This iPhone game put me right there in the action, and although I liked FPS games more, my role as a Word War II bomber suited me just fine thanks to the easy controls and fast-paced game play. iBomber is one iPhone game you’re bound to pick up and forget to put down.

You can control your bomber using only your iPhone’s touch screen and the accelerometer. There are no virtual sticks or directional pads, no complicated key combinations. Just drop bombs like you’ve got a whole bag of them from Santa. And actually you do. In iBomber you can’t run out of ammo, which is a cool thing, and one less detail to worry about. iBomber is focused on you experience in-game, and were it not [...]
