Family Guy For The iPhone – Yet Another Let Down

It’s not the first time that Family Guy pops up in the AppStore Top Apps with a newly released application relying heavily on the TV show’s name. After Family Guy, Seth MacFarlene gives fans another reason to ask him for more from Family Guy apps. Family Guy Uncensored welcomes you to play around with your favorite Griffins’ family in several minigames packed into one app.

The game features a free version, which, I must admit provided the right incentive for me to go and buy the full app. And that is the funny intro featuring Brian and Stewie sitting in a chair accusing me of being a cheapskate for sticking to the free version. I must say that were it not for this little humourous chat, I’d have played the free version and dropped the app completely.

And that’s because the minigames are not that impressively built. [...]

Mix It Up with 50 Cent

50 Cent teamed up with Vitamin Water to release the artist’s first iPhone app that lets you mix his most recent single Baby By Me.

The song is stripped to the bare bones into various stems (bass, drum, keyboard, snare, chorus) to let you play around with these and create your own variation of Baby By Me. Simply tapping the selected instrument will make it play, so mixing it up is fairly easy for non-professionals such as myself. The technology behind it, mobile digital entertainment studio Moderati’s Romplr remix platform, has been used before by recording artists, such as Soulja Boy, the main difference being that 50 will only let you mix his hot new single, while the latter gives you a couple of songs from his own repertoire for you to play with. Thought Ratatouille was fun? Well, you’ll like Ratty too then. In the new game Rat On The Run, you need to get Ratty in perfect shape for the winter by fattening him up with all the cheese you can get your paws on. This is no easy task mind you. You need to watch out for spiders, slimy blobs and other baddies who’d rather see Ratty as a lab rat.

The gamestyle should strike you pretty familiar to Super Mario Brothers. Ratty runs around a maze avoiding the traps and collecting cheese. This may sound a little boring and of-so-not-original, but I’ve enjoyed my time with this iPhone game, and I’d recommend it as a good time-waster.

The twist with Rat On The Run however is in the control of Ratty. Once you start out the level, you’re required to press the screen to make Ratty start moving. Once you’ve tapped [...]

tweetie-2-iphone-app-review

Tweetie 2 got itself a shiny badge by being the Apple Design Award of the year. And by no means were Apple wrong on this one. Tweetie 2 is by far a very polished app, not to mention it would definitely make the top when it comes to twitter apps. S(l)ick design, yet really fast, filled with features, yet not over-bloated with buttons and options, sounds like an update, yet brand new, totally different app from the original. The already popular Tweetie has been recoded from the ground up. Tweetie 2 now incorporates rich features such as offline mode, drafts, threaded conversations, full landscape support, to name a few.

The first thing you note once in Twitter 2 is the shiny new look. B-bye chat bubbles, hello tweet streams and shiny glowing notification orbs. Now, whenever you get a new message, new tweets or [...]

fifa-10-iphone-game-review

The first thing to note about FIFA10 is how little has been actually stripped from the console version. In addition to your standard “Training,” “Penalty Shootout” or the basic “Kick Off!” the game offers three extra game modes for your delight, each with its own twists and specific game play. The awesome thing to note here is that with FIFA10 you get to experience the game from all perspectives involved: the manager, the team player and the team. This only leaves one addition for feature development with FIFA10: the cheering fan or the football hooligan.

Jokes aside though! First off, you have the “Be A Pro” mode, where you can control a player of your choosing, build him from the ground up, play as him and take him to the top. Creating your own player in your own image is also possible, but if you want to [...]

Who here didn’t love Shrek and laughed their hearts out with an ever-annoying Donkey? Who here didn’t think so highly of Lord Farquaad? We all watched the trilogy craving for more. Then came the game for PC. Played it, enjoyed it. Then came the iPhone, and now, with Gameloft’s contribution to the App Store, comes Shrek Kart so that we as iPhone and iPod Touch users can enjoy a good round of laughs and excitement on our devices.

Granted, it’s a bit awkward to have the magic in Shrek be transposed in a simple kart racer. You would most definitely expect the game to rely on the movie’s and the characters’ already sky-high popularity to gain momentum and sustainability over time. And you wouldn’t be really far from the truth.

Comparing Shrek Kart to a true kart racer ( Krazy Kart Racer for example) would be pointless. [...]
