I took a Beginning Drawing class in college. I’m not much of an artist. I could probably draw you a flower, some basic shapes and understand the basic rules of shading. But I’m not much of an artist. So when I first saw Learn to Draw Digital Sketchbook for the iPad, I was hesitant. It sounded particularly aimed at professionals. There was much to learn about how and when to use such an such pencil. I’ve never followed a step-by-step guide to drawing an object, from outlining its basic shapes and adding strokes, refining, adding shades and refining some more. To me, it seemed too complex. But then again, so is the iPad, which I have no idea how it works, but it seems natural in my hand. The same goes for Learn to Draw Digital Sketchbook. When you first pick it up, you initially know how to use it. The audio instructions do a great job at guiding [...]

I’ve always loved Dropbox and cloud syncing. I think it’s dead easy to use, extremely fast and just about 100% reliable. So when I heard of BDrive and its proposition, I had to give it a try.

BDrive wants to cure our dependency on cloud services when it comes to important data. They propose an alternative route. Instead of syncing anything, or everything, to the cloud, why not have it readily accessible directly from our own computers?

The basic idea is that any file that’s stored locally on my computer, I can easily access from my iPhone, without having to sync anything either directly or through a third party app.

So I’m like great. I’ll give it a shot. How does it work?

You’ll need two things. The BDrive client app, which is this iPhone app. And the BDrive Server app, which gets installed on your own [...]

RotationRuler turns your iPhone into a ruler that works, but not everything that works, works well. Sure, RotationRuler gives you the right result, after all, Math doesn’t lie, but how you get to that result is also important.

I took a simple example to put RotationRuler to the test. I wanted to measure my Apple Wireless Keyboard. One way to do it is to take a ruler and measure it. The other way is with RotationRuler. RotationRuler offers two options for your measuring pleasure. You can measure by rotation or by slide. Additionally, you can select to see the result in inches or centimeters.

When measuring by rotation, you take your iPhone and place it on its side and press Start within the app. Next, you have to roll your device from the start point of your measurement to the end point, essentially completing several 360 degrees rotations along the track
