A Finger-Numbing Game

By AppBite Team   January - 16 - 2010    See more Apps inApp Reviews, Games & Entertainment   10 Comments

Let me start off by saying I never really had the impulse to drag the toilet paper roll in one go, not even as a kid. iDragPaper for the iPhone starts you off on this presumption and even though it might lose a user or two, the game did end up in the Top Free Apps chart for last week.

iDragPaper doesn’t involve any gross action of any kind, relying on one simple mechanism: swiping. All you have to do is clear the toilet paper roll at once in the best possible time. There’s not much to it. As soon as you start the game, wait for the Go sign and then start swiping like a maniac up and down on the toilet paper roll you see on the screen until you see the Clear sign.

There’s a timer that counts you off, but the addictive part (yes, unfortunately there is one) is discovering new techniques on how to swipe fastest. [...]

Exotic Locations. Relaxing Music. Childhood Memories. Skipping Stones!

I don’t know about you, but when I get glimpses of my childhood in my dreams, I’m always at my grandparents house at the country side. I can’t say I lived much in a big city when I was growing up, but I take that as a good thing. I remember my grandparents had a small pond in the backyard, and since at 4-5 years old I wasn’t much of a fisher, the only other activity that really had me coming back there was skipping stones across the surface of that small pond. The first time they taught me how to do that it seemed like I was never going to get it. Pick such and such stone, make sure its shape is so and so, look for this angle, time your wrist movement. Now that I think of it, it didn’t take me long before I was a pro at it, skipping as much as 7-9 per throw. Ok, I don’t know what the standard is, and no one was [...]

The iPhone App That Proves We’re All Kids At Heart

While the developers branded the app as a “Children’s App On The iPhone For The Festive Season,” I found it to be much more than that. Sure enough the Christmasy backgrounds, the Gingerbread Man himself, the colors and the graphics – they all point to a child’s idea of an app. But at Christmas time, we’re all kids. We’re all waiting for Santa, so why shouldn’t we all enjoy a great app release – Dress Jinjee.

This iPhone app allows you to dress and decorate the Gingerbread Man and share him with your friends and family. At first sight, there’s not much to this release, but the features that come with it including a wide selection of decorations for Jinjee (yes, that’s his name now, although a bit tacky) , colorful backdrops and the awesome feature to record your own note and send it along with the card, make [...]

A Game For All You Whos Out There

Being Christmas and all, there’s one movie that I always watch around this time of the year: Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s a true holiday classic and one of my favorites. When I saw the game in the AppStore, it was without hesitation that I purchased it. Grinchmas is a fun game for all ages where you take control of the Grinch himself and throw snowballs, or presents as the case may be, at the Who houses down below.

Depending on how you’re feeling, you can choose to play the nice mode as the Merry Grinch or the, well, not-so-nice mode being Mean Grinch. In the nice mode, you’ll be sending presents to all the Whos that are waiting for Christmas in their own houses. In the naughty mode, take a grip of yourself and don’t let that heart of yours get any bigger! Those Whos are making way too much [...]

In the spirit of the holiday season, I decided to try out a fun relaxing game, and step out a bit from the puzzle-mania trance I’m still fighting with. It’s actually quite difficult to get a hold of games that work for and not against the user, games that are simple, easy to play and have a certain doze of addiction embedded in them. Alas, the other day I came across Elf Command, which I am happy to say scores high in all those categories.

The premise of the game is quite simple. Santa needs your help, his robot elfs can’t quite handle the workload, so it’s up to you to help them sort out the presents and have them delivered to their rightful, future owners: all the good little boys and girls. I picked up on the controls and basics in seconds and off I was delivering those presents.

The game presents you with two [...]

Stack ‘em Up, Stack ‘em High With Dice Pile For The iPhone

To keep it simple and to the point, Dice Pile is all about throwing dice in the air so to have them land in the designated area to form a pile. The bigger the pile, the higher the score. Plain and simple, yet so utterly addictive. The game grows on you from the first few throws and I’ve been having a blast with it for the past few days.

Upon starting the app, you’ll see a minimalistic interface that launches you straight into the game and its simple mechanics. To throw the die, simply pick one from the pile on the left of the iPhone, press and hold on it and flick it off into the air towards your right. The designated area is marked off neatly on the right, and even if the first few shots will fall short of target, simply re-address the speed and angle of the flick and off you go pilling up dice. If the name Waldo (otherwise long for Wally) doesn’t resonate with you then all is not lost. Waldo is one of my happy memories from childhood, both the comic books and my various PC adventures have led me to find the elusive man in red, white and blue. In short, Where’s Waldo is the iPhone’s variation of the theme, and your sole task is to find him and draw him out of hiding from amidst the various animated little characters.

Finding Waldo is basically a dynamic hiddne-object game experience, perhaps the best known title of its kind. Granted, you will get often frustrated, always on the edge of giving up and just smashing that iPhone against the wall. Why, you ask? Well, if you thought that Waldo was hard to find on your comic books or on a nice wide PC screen, then things get even harder on your iPhone, as you can [...]
