With the new hype around social gaming that’s been around for some time now, I wanted to bring to you an interesting mobile experience that Gowalla supplies by tying the magic behind GPS, the gaming aspect of collecting items and the power of Facebook Connect to supply the social aspect in this location-based travel game that rewards you for every place you visit with your iPhone.

The idea behind it is simple enough. Once you’re in a cafe, restaurant, musem you haven’t been before or any ordinary day-to-day location, pull out your iPhone and check-into that location and add it to your collection of unique passport stamps. Once checked-in, you can see whoelse checked in that location and even collect items left behind by them. Amongst other notable collectibles are famous landmarks, cool architectural [...]

How To Play Tangrams In A Whole New Exciting Way

All you need is an iPhone and LetsTans. Upon first being asked to review this game, I must admit I was a bit in the dark about Tangrams, what they are and the basics of the game. And after playing LetsTans for the first time I was still a bit in the dark. And my point here is that this is the main downside of LetsTans. It assumes that you already know what Tangrams are and how the game is played, as the first screen that pops out upon opening the app is the different puzzles you can solve. Tapping on any of them will take you to the actual puzzle, and you will get a board filled with colorful shapes and no real clue as to what you’re up against. The clock is ticking nevertheless, and you find yourself tapping on the shapes until you see the little plus sign at the bottom of the screen. Alas, [...]

A Clever Use Of MultiTouch With Mach Ball

With Mach Ball, your task is to guide the ball to the end zone by drawing lines on the screen to reflect it and make it go the right direction. The ball is always moving and accelerating, and hitting your line at just the right angle will make it go faster, or, on the contrary, slow it down. There’s ofcourse a time element involved and various bonuses for collecting items along the way. Bottom line is your highscore for completing the level in seconds.

The way you draw walls to reflect the ball is simple enough. Touching the iPhone’s screen in two spots will draw a line on the screen between those two hotspots and the wall is thus created. Once the ball reaches it, it will reflect accordingly. The catch is that you can only draw one wall at any given time, drawing another one will erase the one [...]

Touch Attack features three different little bites of entertainment packaged into one nice suite for everyone to enjoy, with a nice twist to the classic Whack-A-Mole gameplay. With funny sound effects, stylishly cartoonish themes and entertaining animation sprites for the in-game characters, Touch Attack is a solid release for time-wasters like myself who enjoy a fast paced game with some touches of creativity.

The first game you can play is Blast-a-Mole where you have to use your quick reflexes in a classic game of Whack-A-Mole with a twist. Not all of the criters that pop out are valid targets. You only have to hit the ones with the red bullseye on their chest. Shooting an “innocent” mole will lose you a life (out of three), and you’ll be that much closer to end-game. The first round is pretty easy, all you need [...]

Fire Up Your iPhone’s Engine With Asphalt 5

I hope you’re ready for a visually stunning experience, cuz that’s exactly what you’ll be getting with Gameloft’s Asphalt 5. This iPhone arcade racing at its best, and if you can let go of the habbit of racing with a Racing Wheel, Asphalt 5 should definitely be your pick for mobile racing.

Visually, Asphalt 5 is one of the best games available in the AppStore. I usually like to concentrate more on what a game or app provides as content and functionality, rather than look at graphics that may impair rather than help. But this one is a definite winner in terms of the graphics engine. The details are smooth, and even if the tracks fly by at high speeds, they are never lost in the background. The race tracks themselves are beautifully rendered. Asphalt 5 provides you with 12 different racing tracks [...]

The very first First Person Shooter available on the almighty iPhone and playable exclusively online! Free of charge! Wow, now that’s a headline you’re likely to catch. Putting aside all skepticism, I went ahead and downloaded Eliminate Pro and boy am I glad I did. Eliminate Pro is not a simple FPS game. With all the complexities the developers – ngmoco:) – built around it, including a system for leveling up, buying weapons, competing against real friend (or foes) and the great Credits system, well, I must say I was stunned by the efforts and work put into such a great release.

First I should note that Eliminate Pro is a FPS that’s built entirely around live multiplayer death matches. You can choose to play the game agaist various bots (no fun there), but you’d still need a WiFi or 3G connection to log in. [...]

Discover New Frontiers With NASA

nasa-iphone-app-review

NASA released its first official iPhone app to let anybody in on its ongoing outer-space endeavors. The app, packed with everything wannabe-space travellers and Universe enthusiasts would require, gives you detailed info about NASA missions, including images, access to NASA TV videos and live updates via Twitter feeds. On great feature of the app is the ability to track shuttles currently in orbit. What more would you want?

I was actually surprised of how much they packed in the app, while keeping an uncluttered screen that’s easy to follow along with. At startup, the app shows you a scrolling list of NASA’s current ongoing missions, packed with high-res images. Tapping one specific mission, will take you to the next screen where you can read up on the mission description, objectives, its status and, if the mission is not [...]
