With the end of the year slowly creeping in, Apple has picked its App and Game of the Year. In this two part article, I’ll be reviewing them, one at a time. First I have to say that while I agree with the app of the year, I would have gone another route with the game of the year. But that’s another story. So, without further adue, let’s jump right in to Action Movie FX, Apple’s App of the Year 2012.

With Action Movie FX, you can easily turn your home movies into Christopher Nolan-quality action scenes. Explosions, rockets, car mayhem and even robots and aliens, everything goes with Action Movie FX. Have a birthday and filming the birthday boy blowing out the candles? Why not add an RPG rocket blowing up that cake? Or perhaps you’re insanely upset with your friend for the standing you up last night? Go and film [...]

When it comes to video sharing, there are two groups of people: the ones who share, and the others who re-share. The people in the first group are those extremely passionate video watchers, who are always the first to share the newest, trendiest videos. And the others are…well, most of us are the others, who learn about these videos from friends, and rarely discover them ourselves. But here comes an app that takes video sharing to a whole new level through video clipping. This is ClipClock, and you can find it in the AppStore.

ClipClock allows you to clip and share parts of the videos you like the most. And also enjoy other users’ clips. But, that’s not its only function. With ClipClock, you get to watch just the type of videos you like. It gives you access to your friends’ latest video shares. And, you can film and share your own [...]

Unbelievable is a word I rarely use to describe an app. I usually find most apps to be pretty good, very good, or quite the contrary, in need of some improvement. I only came across so far of only a handfull of unbelievable. But Narr8 is definitely one of them. Narr8 is so close to perfection that I find it unbelievable. Insanely amazing graphics. A continuously updating list of comics you can download. Really interesting and entertaining stories. Various types of characters and genres. And you can enjoy all this without paying a dime!

I’ve seen my share of project management software. They’re all so future rich and it seems that developers are tempted to stuff everything but the kitchen sink into one, just to market it as an all-in-one. A lot of the times, it’s not really working and we’re left to trying to make different software fit for different purposes play well together on the same device. Or even stick to using a todo.txt file on the desktop for managing lists. I’ve personally been using Wunderlist since it came out. It doesn’t pack a powerful punch, but has (almost) everything I need to manage tasks. Their iOS version (as opposed to the stable Mac desktop version), was a disappointment. I’m waiting on Wunderslist 2 to come out, but until they prove otherwise, I must admit that when it comes to all-in-ones, I’m still stuck to using different things for different purposes. Perhaps Beesy [...]

Since Apple’s iOS6 debut, the company removed Google Maps as the system’s default Maps app and replaced it with its own internal creation, which people have dubbed to be an abomination. Memes started springing all of the internet, some straight up funny, others as silly as the Maps app. My two favorite memes have to deal one with Star Wars and the other with one of the most used joke intros of all time (photos courtesy of weknowmemes.com and mysmartprice.com respectively.)

While the punch lines may still very well apply to the default Maps app, iOS users now have an alternative in the form of…wait for it…Google Maps. Yes, that’s right. The internet search behemoth has finally released its own maps app in the AppStore. And the Apple review team has approved it, thereby making it, within 24 hours from its release, the number 1 top free app [...]

It allows, neh, it empowers users to share their photos, their Kodak moments, their memories, if you will, with the world. Its community counts over 80 million users and its Facebook-acquisition has been the talk of the tech world. Its AppStore description reads on the first line simply: Instagram.

For those of you who’ve lived under a rock for the last two years, Instagram is the iPhone app to have with you if you’re into photography and sharing your photos. Although it currently has strong competition from the likes of Flickr and 500px, Instagram is still the app on everyone’s lips and its name is still the source of inspiration for so-many Insta-apps in the AppStore.

It’s dead easy to use. Open the app, create your free account, and start taking pictures. Tap the camera button in the middle of the tab bar, snap a picture or pick one from the Camera roll and choose from a multitude of beautiful filters [...]
