iq-test-iphone-app-review

Amidst a whole bunch of similar apps that claim to test your intelligence and reveal your IQ, we ran across a more compelling application in the App Store that has really put our skills to the test. IQ-Test from MacPhun is currently on sale – 80% off, and has been so for the past couple of weeks.

Whether the test is fully consistent with the standards of IQ testing, whatever these may be, we can’t know for sure, but what I can guarantee is that you’ll get a real kick out of this one. Besides being easy to use, questions coming at you automatically, there are other options that tend to give you a helping hand in getting a higher IQ. You can pause the test whenever and come back to it later, right where you left off, pass off questions and solve them at a later stage, all of which [...]

Once best game, always best game

By AppBite Team   July - 26 - 2009    See more Apps inApp Reviews, Games & Entertainment   2 Comments

With the App Store turning 1 this week, we wanted to remember some of the original games that came out with its launch one year ago. Since we’re really into puzzle games, we wanted to review such a game that, even though 1 year old, still plays out real nice on our devices. So we remembered a little game called Enigmo, that really stirred up spirits at the WWDC ‘08 and easily captured developers, reviewers, and users’ attention. At that conference it was voted as “best iPhone game,” a rank that Enigmo can easily compete for with similar puzzle games within its range even today.

You start out the new game with Level 1, and two buckets of water on the screen – one is hanging upside down pouring water drops, and one is sitting on a platform. The two buckets are not aligned so the water spills onto the floor, so the object of the game is to get the drops of water from one bucket to pour to the other. You’re given several tools at your disposal, depending on the level you’re at and what you need to build a complex platform system that will successfully direct the water to the target bucket. You are however limited on supplys, so you must plan where exactly each tool will go to play as an integral part of your system.

rise-and-shine-iphone-app-review

With Kensington’s free Rise&Shine iPhone and iPod Touch app, you can easily turn your favorite device into a nightstand clock with a retro or digital theme to enjoy on your occasional night walks. The application itself is free, and although there are several others that do the same job, the team over at Kensington added the novelty of including a stand to keep your iPhone fully charged at night.

The app is beautifully designed and loaded with neat options. You’re given three themes to choose from and then personalize to your likings: reflection, flip and digital. The display works in both portrait and landscape mode, and you’re free to choose whatever colors you desire for displaying the time. One extra added bonus is the local weather, which is displayed as well (in either Celsius or Fahrenheit degrees), plus the five-day forecast at the tap of a button.

Code is the newest puzzle game for the iPhone and iPod Touch competing for the attention of our puzzle game addicts. With Code from developer Carl H. Blomqvist, you’re given the task to decode the Codemaker’s pattern on the Decoding Board.

As an aspiring Codebreaker, you are dealing with a 6 x 6 grid containing a total of 36 differently colored codes that are placed out of order. You start by having the Decoding Board all one code, and you can choose from the Decoding Pallete containing the 6 possible codes what code to place where on the board. Whenever you want to verify a combination you’ve created, hit the GO! button on the top-right side of the screen to trigger the Key Verifier. Essentially, it will tell you all you need to know to finish the puzzle.

Inhale Here from Gerrit Wijnants will turn your iPhone and iPod Touch into a Helium-filled balloon and let you lighten up the atmosphere at any party.

The iPhone app has no bells or whistles. It’s designed simply to do one thing: make you sound really funny. All you have to do is put your mouth to the device’s microphone, start inhaling, and then have your go and talk in the mic. The app will take what you just said in your normal voice and turn it into a high-pitched version, just as if you were inhaling Helium from the iPhone.

waterslide-extreme-iphone-game-review

Waterslide Extreme for the iPhone and iPod Touch is still currently ranking as no. 1 for Top Free Apps in the App Store, so we decided to take a slide down this newest creation, released just last week. With Waterslide Extreme, you take control of a character of a gender of your choice (male or female) and slide down a gigantic waterslide through a beautifully designed cityscape, by day or by night. Your task is to get to the bottom unharmed and collect as many gems as possible along the way.

In the game, you must tilt your device to avoid going over board, and stay in the slide until the bottom. Collect as many gems as you can and the faster you go the more bonus points you get at the end. The graphics are pretty downright great. Your device responds in real time and the game renders pretty nice and fast. Perhaps the game’s main issue has to deal with controls, as you need some time to get used to them, especially if this is your first game where the iPhone’s accelerometer is used in combination with tilting the device to control your character. But once you’ve got the hang of them, your ready to head down the slide, with no real problems.
