To keep it simple and to the point, Dice Pile is all about throwing dice in the air so to have them land in the designated area to form a pile. The bigger the pile, the higher the score. Plain and simple, yet so utterly addictive. The game grows on you from the first few throws and I’ve been having a blast with it for the past few days.

Upon starting the app, you’ll see a minimalistic interface that launches you straight into the game and its simple mechanics. To throw the die, simply pick one from the pile on the left of the iPhone, press and hold on it and flick it off into the air towards your right. The designated area is marked off neatly on the right, and even if the first few shots will fall short of target, simply re-address the speed and angle of the flick and off you go pilling up dice. If the name Waldo (otherwise long for Wally) doesn’t resonate with you then all is not lost. Waldo is one of my happy memories from childhood, both the comic books and my various PC adventures have led me to find the elusive man in red, white and blue. In short, Where’s Waldo is the iPhone’s variation of the theme, and your sole task is to find him and draw him out of hiding from amidst the various animated little characters.

With so many Santa apps being released now in the AppStore it’s been a true delight to see that amongst the Top Free Apps is not actually a singing Santa, or a dancing Santa, or worse any type of farting Santa. Traffic Rush is actually a very entertaining game that takes after Air Traffic Controller, only your a policeman standing in the middle of the street directing traffic.

For some reason the traffic lights are not working, so it’s up to you to tell each car when to cross the intersection and when to stop. The good thing is you don’t have to follow the normal, real-life traffic rules. In fact, the only rule you need to know is that cars should not be crashing. Other than that, play God!

Ok, I must admit this one was a toughie. I’m not taking pride in a Einstein-like brain, but do expect a challenge from Strimko, the number puzzle game from Grabarchuk Puzzles. I was never a math-whiz, but I do generally well on puzzle games, even though they are not my favorite gaming genre.

Strimko is a number puzzle game that introduces a whole new twist for the classic Latin Squares number concept (think the all-popular Sudoku). The object with Strimko is to fully fill the board with the missing numbers observing a few rules. First off, note that the numbers are not on a linear grid, but rather the numbers are placed on “streams,” their spots united through a line. You still have to watch out for rows and columns so that they all contain unique numbers across, but with Strimko, the third rule [...]

I re-iterate my previous post. It’s puzzle-mania for me! Now I’m back to Tangrams (I was totally in the dark about this ancient Chinese game until LetsTans), but currently found a new appetite for this type of puzzles. Thankfully, Cross Fingers is here to quench my hunger, and I’m here to tell you that it’s a doozie. The game will have you twisting and twiddling your fingers in no time, hence a really effective name: Cross Fingers.

It’s kind of an end-of-the-year puzzle frenzy for me. Since I last reviewed LetsTans I’ve been checking out other cool games to make my little brain tick. I stumbled across FruitBlox just yesterday and I haven’t put the iPhone down yet. The game basics are simple, the graphics are sweet and funny with a little cartoonish touch, and the animation sprites are well done. And the best thing of it (or perhaps the worst, depends how you look at it), it’s addictive!

With FruitBlox, you have to make squares of fruits and vegetables, in such a way as to have the corners of the square mimic the same fruit or veggie. If you remember my review of Ice Age 3D (yes, the game that really disappointed), well, then pay close attention here. This new release is a must-have for any true iPhone gaming lover, not to mention Ice Age fan. Upon seeing the screens in the previews, I just knew I’d love the game, and I wasn’t wrong at all. This adventure game is fantastic on all levels, from stunning graphics and hilarious sound effects, to a truly exciting gameplay.

Ice Age Dawn Of The Dinosaurs is nothing like it’s predecesor.
