We all know those days at the office when every five minutes seem like an eternity and the clock handles don’t seem to be moving in the right direction at the right speed. Well, be bored no more, because from Backflip Studios came one of the greatest time-wasters we’ve yet to see for the iPhone. With Paper Toss, you have to aim for the trash can with crumbled up paper, while taking the fan speed into account. It’s a game we actually played at the office on a slow day, but the virtual version beats real life when no one has to play fetch and return the paper that rolls down on the floor.

The game is so much more than throwing a piece of paper in a trash can. You get to choose between three difficulty levels, which differ in the distance between you and the trash can. Take into account the airflow from the fan (positioned randomly either to your right or the left) and the gusts of wind of different intensity for every shot, and try to hit as many buckets as you can. The fan’s power is displayed as an arrow showing you both the direction and the intensity of the shot, and letting you plan your shot accordingly.

Control the air space with Air Traffic Controller

We ran across a fun and challenging game in the AppStore the other day that we simply couldn’t put down. So after playing the first 23 or so levels, having drank enough coffee and ignoring everything and everyone else around us, we’ve put our iPhones and iPods aside and moved on to writing its review.

With Air Traffic Controller you are out in charge of directing incoming and outgoing flights from the flight control center, attempting to clear the air space avoiding any air-accidents and flight casualties. Your job appears simple at the beginning for the first few levels, but be assured calamities will ensue if you take it lightly. The controls are simple enough. Tap on a plane to select it and then simply swipe across the screen from the plane location to the destination to get it moving in that direction. You have 4 destination checkpoints, at the sides of your screen, plus the airport where you can land planes on their designated runways. Planes will be coming in from all four checkpoints and will also be taking off from the runways on the airport, so pay close attention to where you direct outgoing planes as to not crash them into the incoming ones.

With iColoring Book from Pockey Soft parents empower their children to enjoy the beauties of coloring straight with an iPhone or iPod Touch. A fun and interactive app provides several hours of entertainment for your kids, and hours of quiet and relaxation for yourself.

iColoring Book fully uses the iPhone touch screen capabilities, turning your finger into a crayon. And if you’ve ever gone mad that coloring goes beyond the drawn-up borders, there’s no need to worry now. What is truly awesome about this iPhone app is exactly this “fill” option, that lets the app makes sure that your coloring stays within the lines, even if your finger goes beyond the borders. You can of course turn off this feature and choose to color anywhere, outside and even across the lines.

This iPhone game from the developers at Optime Software is bound to bring back childhood memories of grammar school, when we were wasting time and paper on one of the best games we’ve ever played back in the times. With Dots, forget about wasting paper, and download for free this sweet classic and play against the computer while reminiscing about the good old days when time flew by and fun was guaranteed.

For those of you who don’t know the game and haven’t played it before, the learning curve is really low. You basically have to connect dots by placing a line between any two dots, while alternating turns with your opponent. The goal is connect four lines as to create a closed circuit between them, aka a box. You win by completing more boxes than your opponent.

Tricky questions for iPhone users

how-smart-are-you-iphone-app-review

Looking beyond its typical IQ Test app icon and categorization, “How Smart Are You?” provides us with a different insight into our discerning and attention span capabilities. Its questions are not your typical “complete the series of numbers” you’d be likely to find in any other brain tester out there. In fact, among the other web-based IQ tests we’ve seen over the years, we didn’t see any of the questions found in this iPhone app.

We’ve seen a similar test circulating over the internet, called The Official Moron Test, which was said to have questions based upon typical graduation requirements at Harvard University. You’ll find some of the questions from there incorporated into this iPhone app, along with many others. Both are pretty interesting, with the web-based one having the upper hand for more questions, and displaying the right and wrong answers at the end of the test, along with explanations.

Falling Gems is a real gem for the iPhone

It’s time for yet another extremely addictive game for you to try out on you iPhone or iPod Touch. You are challenged to lineup three same-color gems from a multitude of gems you have on your board. Doing so, will get those gems out of the way, and make room for new ones. The catch is that the game idea behind it is to take gravity into account, as the new gems will not take the old ones’ places. They will instead fall from the top, pushing those underneath to fall into place.

The game has a moderate learning curve, as you have to swap adjacent gems to make sets of three or more of the same color touch and take them out. You don’t neet a lot of strategy to have in mind, but you should however be paying attention to what happens to adjacent gems when you take a row of same-colored gems out. You’re allowed to form any shape you want, including a straight line, L-shaped, U-shaped, or any other shape as long as the pieces are completely touching each other on one full side.

Rush down that rollercoaster slope

rollercoaster-rush-iphone-game-review

The iPhone game from the developers of Crazy Penguin Catapult, Digital Chocolate, Rollercoaster Rush offers you the ride of your life as you control a rollercoaster down, up and around un-easy slopes, trying not to crash it and kill-off the riders, and striving for that great experience only a rollercoaster can get you.

Just like with Crazy Penguin, you advance on a top-viewed map, from location to location, as the rides increase in difficulty. You are put in control of a rollercoaster and the entire idea behind the game is to speed up and slow down by tapping on the two side buttons at the bottom of the screen. The different rides have increasingly difficult and unexpected elements such as loop-da-loops, long drops and tight curves, all challenge your ability to react fast and break to prevent the carts from crashing or speed up to jump over the whole in the tracks up ahead. If you go too fast, your ride will crash and you can see the riders parachute off just in time. Game over. But you’re trying to offer them the best experience possible, and speeding is the only way to do that. Give them a good thrill and they scream and are generally happy, and you get those needed points to advance to the next level. The goal is to turn those smileys from the riders into points and get a high star rating at the end of the ride and eventually move on to the next level on the map.
