9-toolbox-iphone-app-review

9 Toolbox brings together a very different set of tools, very useful otherwise, that open up new possibilities on you iPhone and iPod Touch. A currency converter, a date calculator, days until a special event, a holiday calendar, an inclinometer, a loan and a tip calculator, a unit converter and a menstrual calendar. Now isn’t that a curious bunch to come as an AIO?

The Currency Calculator lets you easily convert between worldwide currency, while currently supporting 164 currency codes. You have the possibility to update the exchange rate either manually or automatically, when you start the app.

The Date Calculator does more than math additions and subtractions. You have the possibility to calculate the number of days between two dates, add days to a set date, and find out ahead of time what day of the week the, say 19th of August 2037 will be (it’s a Wednesday).

golden-miner-iphone-game-review

The iPhone game from Colorme challenges you to beat the clock while you must dig for precious treasures and avoid obstacles such as moles, rocks and other objects. This mining adventure game offers a unique experience, with golden treasures, some funny sounds and hours of gameplay.

The game features 99 levels spanned over two difficulty stages, providing you with the right incentives to keep the fun going and the little miner reeling the gold in. You have a fixed time of 60 seconds to grab as many pieces of gold, diamonds and other hidden treasures before the time runs out. The game is not static though, as you have to watch out for moles that crawl across the screen blocking your way to the gold and the many rocks worth squat and making gameplay more difficult, but interesting at the same time.

go-green-iphone-app-review

After filtering through the so-called “fart” apps available in the AppStore, we sometimes come across certain applications that try to make a difference for both users, developers and ultimately the environment we all live in. Such an environmental-friendly app is Go Green from Webworks and Applications, that astounds in the simplicity of effectiveness.

The application displays new green advice each time you launch it, and awards you a new badge after a certain number of tips that are saved up in your Green List for you to revisit at any point in the future. Go Green will provide you with interesting statistics and sometimes amusing facts about our environment, how we currently use it and what can be done differently. The app never suggests that strictly applying these and taking theme as rules instead of tips will lead to a healthier and greener lifestyle, but perhaps even the most stubborn of us can agree on some of them.

Penguins vs. Polar Bears. Take a side!

crazy-penguin-catapult-iphone-game-review

Yes, they’re both cuddling and oh-so-harmless, but apparently they hate each others’ guts, as the game for the iPhone and iPod Touch from Digital Chocolate pits one against the other and forces you to catapult penguins through fire rings and smash them through ice bricks to ultimately knock polar bears out cold.

At first you get to walk your penguin from mission location to mission location on a heroes-style map. Each of those missions gets harder in difficulty, but essentially they all rely on the same basic principles of game-style. Each consists of two phases for the game. At first, your task is to successfully launch a series of penguins through a targeted area with a catapult. The penguins bounce up and down on a rope, and your catapult operator penguing has to hit the bouncer at just the precise time to make it go to the next phase, where it will play its role as a live bomb to strike down those ferocious polar bears.

The development team over at MASQ Interactive bring you the smallest dog breed in the world, the lovely Chihuahua straight to your iPhone and iPod Touch. The game gives you all the necessary tools to play, feed, bathe, and generally enjoy taking care of a lovely chihuahua dog.

With iChihuahua you take control over a lovely tiny puppy you can name however you like. The app puts at your disposal all you’d need to take care of a real-life dog, giving the game a more realistic note. You start off with a pocket full of dollars, but don’t expect it to last that long, as the puppy has needs and those needs cost money. Anything from food, treats, clothes and shampoo for personal hygiene, to toys and objects to decorate his room and comfy shelter in the corner, the prices range from a couple of hundred dollars to as high as a couple of thousands.

Flying monkeys fall short of impressing

monkey-flight-iphone-game-review

Monkey Flight from Donut Games gives your iPhone or iPod Touch the power of the bent palm tree to catapult your monkey as far as possible to collect exotic fruits like bananas, mangos or pineapple. Watch out for mud piles and rocks, as they will slow you down.

The game controls are pretty simple. Tap on the screen and hold to launch the monkey up or down at the appropriate time. There’s a power bar that will let you know when you’re hitting the max. Once you let go of the monkey, the palm tree will launch it across the screen and you get to watch it bounce up and down collecting fruits until it stumbles upon a rock or a mud pile. Elephants and clouds will help it bounce further, an you can help it stay in the air by tapping on it to make it fart. But that’s pretty much all you can do with your monkey. Did we mention you get to watch it bounce up and down and all over your screen? You’re given three monkeys to get the highest score, but things can get repetitive pretty quickly.

Are you hot or not?

sex-appeal-iphone-app-review

The development team at LOLriffic Stuff clearly put the old saying of “sex sells” to the test and boy did they prove it. The “What’s Your Sex Appeal?” iPhone and iPod Touch app was in the Top Free Apps in the AppStore for some time, even though the app does nothing spectacular, and would otherwise be filtered through by iPhone users.

The app relies on a 20-question quiz to tell you if you’re hot or not, and how you rank in comparison to others that have taken the test. After choosing your gender and determining your age group (out of only three possibilities), the app goes on to the 20 questions to determine your so-called sex appeal. The sets of questions differ based on your choices in these initial categories, but they all lead to the same end screen: Are you hot or not?
